kara - that totally sucks! an hour and a half!? I would have caved WAY before that! you might want to try the Sleep Easy Solution... it's not the total extinction - you go in to sooth with voice only (and we check diaper) at 5 min, 10 min, etc... might help Dylan? I'm pretty sure that it is the best way for Harrison, although we never tried the extinction. so who knows.

thanks for the encouragement. i've decided to let dylan "cry it out" tonight. he literally was up every 2 hours last night, sometimes less than 2 hours. i decided that even though we'll be messing up his sleep pattern, that i can't go the next 23 days with less than 2 consective hours of sleep. i'm hoping that we'll be able to sort our any sleep issues/time adjustment in the philippines. we'll be staying in our own condo and owen will have his own room so hopefully it won't wake him up also. i have to admit that we tried letting him "cry it out" sunday night and i caved in. i know. i know. talk the talk, walk the walk. he went down okay, but when he woke 2 hours later and cried for an hour and half i caved in. i'll let you know how it goes.

Oh yes Aimee, Tyler did that last Christmas when he was 6 months and we were in CA for a month. He literally did not sleep through the night one time in the entire month we were there. I think at 6 months they are pretty aware of their surroundings and are like, "hey, this isn't my bed, house, etc..." And like you said, they quickly catch on that having you lull them to sleep in whatever way they like is pretty nice. Good luck!! Oh, and I didn't take your helping the economy post as bragging at all. I took it as two people who work really hard, are successful and deserve to spend some of their hard earned $$ on making their life with a kid a little easier - we are sadly currently shopping for a second SUV - to replace our Honda Civic which is useless with a kid in a place where it is winter 6 months out of the year :)

without doing a long explanation - i can say that he does SO MUCH BETTER with the sleep training... I still don't understand how or why it works... but, for some reason when that kid cries to sleep on his own he sleeps better and longer. I kind of wish that we had just done it throughout our trip. I suppose that I didn't because Tari & Albert were right in the next room and wouldn't have been able to sleep, but, if you have some privacy - I suggest thinking about doing the sleep training no matter where you are. This time around the training is AWESOME! partly because Marc is doing it... it is like night any day... I will try to do a whole post about this go-round later this week.

i hear you. after staying on the boat with the chowanec's, dylan is doing the same thing. except we are leaving on friday and i'm still debating if it's worth doing any sleep training when we are going be screwing with his sleep in a few days.
