If his dream were to come true that would mean that I would be insane blessed enough to get pregnant TWO more times or be burdened blessed with twins. Let’s hope he doesn’t have any crazy magical psychic powers.

And while time passes and Harrison gets increasingly awesome and I forget about how annoying babies are, I have to say… I’m coming around to the idea of doing it again. But, I’m on a good-healthy streak with my knee and finding my stride in derby. The season is half over and I can’t imagine NOT doing this. So, as long as my ol’ body can keep up with my desire to skate around in circles and hit other women, that fictitious baby will have to wait. Also – I did the math – I figure I can get at least 2 more years in with this crazy sport and still have another little bean before I’m 40. Unless I counted wrong… which is entirely possible. I fell pretty hard on Monday and could have jostled around some of my brain parts.

Listening: Andrew Bird (because it’s soothing and it helps me forget that I got up at 5:30am) Also – I think he should spend more time writing and less time posing for photos – what IS that!?

Me and the kid attempted to fly out on Friday at noon. The flight was delayed due to a dead battery. We had to sit on the plane for 45 minutes before learning that we would have to de-plane, wait for an hour, find out that the battery could not be repaired, that they would have to fly in another battery – from ARIZONA?, and that the earliest the plane could take-off would be another 5 hours from then. So, I – as calmly as I could – demanded that my bags and car seat be released from the plane and sent to baggage claim so that I could take my pissed-off toddler home. An hour and a half later we were home. It was a terrible way to spend five hours, but, it could have been worse – I could have been the lady behind me on the plane who obviously had it really bad: “This is ridiculous! I got a drink at the bar before this flight and now – it has probably WORN OFF! This kind of thing ALWAYS happens to me!” (I did not make this up or exaggerate for comic effect. The situation reminded me of this. Seriously – why are we all such idiots?!!!)

I got us a ticket for the next morning (6am) and we tried again. Luckily we had banked so much karma that Saturday’s trip was pretty much a breeze.

So, we’re here. Woohoo!

We luckily found a substitute nanny for most of the week. She is smart, patient, sweet and most of all pretty in the eyes of H. It is fascinating how that kid knows what pretty is. And knows what flirting is. It never fails – we’ll be out to eat and he will lock eyes with the prettiest girl in the restaurant and make her notice him and continue to make eyes, wave and then turn away coyly – the entire meal.

Kara’s theory is that babies are constantly, subconsciously, looking for a substitute mommy in case something should happen. A survival technique from back in our caveman days. Always have a backup plan in case your mom gets trampled by a woolly mammoth. Makes sense to me.

Bonnie Berry is the ridiculously talented photographer that I stumbled upon through livemom.com; stalked on the internet as a fan of her photography and design work; met at a Live Mom event; and then hired to shoot our second family portraits – the our-boy-is-a-year-old! portraits.

Did I mention that she is ridiculously talented? And hilarious? And just awesome to be around?

Well, I should have.

So, a couple weeks ago she came and shot some photos of us. I was determined not to make too big a deal about it – not wear anything special – just shoot us, as we are. And she did that, but, she must have used some magical filter on her camera because my teeth are all shiny and white, my skin looks all glowy and smooth and my hair is yes, full of split ends – but, also luminescent.
