happy derby!
The last scrimmage of the spring season for Wreck-League was Sunday. My parents are in town so, they got to see it. I was really excited for them to see what all their years of supporting my athletic aspirations as a kid had turned into, 20 years later.
We won, but, it’s really all about having fun… and winning.
It was an awesome experience – great girls and tremendous teamwork. We were the pink team – the Domestic Divas and we played the Hussy Homewreckers.
I wore red pearls and a pink and red polka dotted apron for the intro. I realized at halftime that a cheapo beaded necklace was probably a BAD idea on a slick floor surrounded by girls on SKATES. DUH! So, I took them off.
This is me trying to block the opposing jammer – I look like I’m doing a good job, but, alas even with a push from behind by Janie Gottagun, I think she got away.
Now, that’s some blocking! Finally starting to get it. Blocking = the most difficult part of derby.
I look calm, but, this may have been right before L-Train (pictured right behind me) ran me out of bounds. And though I was pushed out of bounds and lost some speed, she’s the one that fell.
Cutting through the pack with a little help from Jen Entonic’s rear.
