rice cakes and macaroni and beans oh my!

So… we decided to eliminate baby food from the kids diet. Done. He will, from now on, eat like a normal human being! No more pureeing. No more ridiculously priced – but, oh-so-good, gourmet, store-bought mush. I knew this day was coming, but, I hadn’t realized that it was THIS possible. THIS easy. I stumbled [...]

like a big boy

We gave him a whole pear to see if he’d know what do with it. He knew… oh boy did he know. He’d just finished eating his dinner – I thought maybe he’d have a bite or two… he ate the ENTIRE thing… …and cried when I took the core away from him. Listening: Harlem [...]

a nationally recognized holiday

The kid walks! H had shown very few signs that he was on his way to walking. He didn’t love standing still on his own – had only done it a couple times – I had theories that he was just too busy to stand still – but, that was just me making excuses for [...]

need a fix

I got my first-ever REAL hug from the kid last night. Seriously – 11 months in – I’ve been licked, baby-kissed, drooled-on, bitten, nibbled, hair-pulled, and tickled – all signs of love to developing human – but, never been hugged. Not really. For some unknown reason he was afraid to take a bath last night. [...]

90%

There isn’t much to say about a home improvement project that is about 7 months overdue, other than holy F-ing moly – it is almost done! Marc still needs to build a staircase to prevent any broken bones caused by the 3 foot drop from door to slab at the top of the driveway. And [...]

goin’ back to cali

Already planning or should I say dreaming about our summer vacation to California. I’m not sure how we’re going to do it this year… renting a house in Tahoe was the plan, but, it’s looking ridiculously expensive. I’m still aiming to manifest a house-sitting gig on Lake Tahoe – yes, ON the lake please. I [...]

pat it and roll it, etc.

Getting all serious in yesterday’s post – boooo! I’m happy to say we are back to some serious silliness: We asked the boys to make us buttermilk biscuits for lunch. Unfortunately, they just made a big mess. Darn babies – when are they going to start pulling their weight around here!? Listening: French Miami

hunkered

I haven’t been writing because we have our noses tethered to the grindstone. Marc is waist-deep into tax stuff and I am just slammed with work. It is hard to imagine that taking 10 minutes to write a quick post is not possible, but, sometimes it just is. Yesterday, while taking a quick break – [...]

who have i become?

Not two hours after the cleaning lady left our house last week, I encouraged – no, planned – a finger painting extravaganza at the dining room table for the two babies. The next thing you know, I’ll be sewing clothes, spending my free time baking and hiring a petting zoo for the kid’s birthday. CRAAAA-ZY! [...]

we finally did it

We cut the kid’s straggly, food-coated bangs. Just one snip – about an inch and a half. It looks surprisingly different and good! And no – grandmas – we did not keep the hair. It is in the garbage can beneath broccoli rabe trimmings and this mornings coffee grounds. Listening: Fleet Foxes
