a major milestone
We were just informed via a text message from the nanny that H said what might be his first word. And while I would like to report that it was Mama, Dada, something ooey-gooey like Love, or even - given his fondness for food - Yummy, alas, the positive affirmations and terms of endearment will have to wait. Because his first word was NO.
Apparently the word leapt from H’s mouth while Elizabeth was feeding him lunch of leftover curry lentils with carrots and tomatoes. Now, I know what you are thinking, but, it is actually really good! And he really liked it last night. But, today between every few bites, apparently he would yell out NO and then continue chewing.
After getting the text we immediately called Elizabeth to hear the details. I assumed - as did you - that his palette was maybe not as developed as we thought and he was refusing to eat my first attempt at homemade Indian cuisine, but, no! - Elizabeth explained that he was prefectly happy with his meal - he was just even happier that he had figured out how to say an actual word!
So, while my dreams of his first word(s) being the answer to life, the universe and everything are shattered we are still as thrilled as he is that he has learned to use his mouth for more than eating and biting - that he can actually communicate! Baby-begone - Harrison is a full-fledged human being!

We would have only been happier if “forty-two” were his first word.
