sleep training : nap 1

Naps were Harrison’s main problem – I could get him to go down by nursing him if I let him fall completely to sleep and then as slowly and carefully as possible slide him into his crib. With anybody else the kid would protest for 10 or 20 minutes even. Especially with the nanny who was about at her wits end. The protesting of course tires, or more appropriately over-tires the kid out to the point that his adrenaline is pumping and he would sleep like crap. For the past month he would only sleep for 30 minutes at a time, which isn’t restorative in the least. So…

10:30am: read a story in the rocking chair

10:35: check/change diaper, then nurse

10:50: lay in crib, walk away… and… cue the crying. cry. cream. cry…

10:55: sleeping angel-doll-baby

Eyes roll back in head – I faint dead-away from honest-to-goodness disbelief. The kid is obviously some kind of a genius, and I just hadn’t given him enough credit.

Summary:
crying: 5 minutes
check-ins: none
total sleep: 1 hour 20 minutes

Listening: Johnny Cash (I Walk The Line)
