dreaming of cheeseburgers
The kid doubled his birth weight a week ago – at 2 1/2 months – which I believe was a little early comparatively. He has averaged a 1.5 ounce weight gain per day – according to the internet, babies will gain .5 – 1 ounce per day for the first six months. He only eats about 7 times a day because he cut out his mid-night feeding over a month ago. He’s been sleeping 9 hours straight per night for over a month… and since I’m already bragging I may as well top that off with the fact that in the morning (around 7am) after he wakes to eat, he goes back to sleep for another three hours. I’m sure he will re-balance the scales later in life, by steeling our car to go to Mexico with his friends, but, for now, we are very, very lucky.
I believe that all of that sleeping made for the great weight gain, but, also, he’s just a good eater. However, now, after a full meal he’s been smacking his gums and making chewing-like motions. This new development paired with the fact that he’s doubled his weight and has stellar head control could mean that the kid is getting ready for solid food already. Which, to my surprise, is more sad than I had anticipated. First of all, breast feeding is just so damn easy. Secondly, eating solid food means that this kid is growing into a little boy – something I’ve been looking forward to since he was a fetus – but, now, that it is on the horizon, I’m finding myself anticipating a future nostalgia for little-tiny-baby-time.

maybe he’s just smacking his lips, in the way professional tasters do, so he can get the full flavor on his palate. today momma had some pho soup with a hint of lime, not too spicy just right. he’s a foodie already =)
ahh… yes! i hadn’t thought of that. fantastic!
: )
You should start him out on brussel sprouts (which I made the other day and thought of you guys).
yes, I think the introduction to solids goes: banana, carrot, brussel sprouts!
