healthy eater

The kid’s two week check-up yesterday went well. He gained 1 pound, 7 ounces in twelve days. That takes him to 8lbs-8oz - from 7lbs-1 oz (his 5-day-old weight). This is another indication that he is indeed ours - the kid likes to eat!

We got assurance from the lactation consultant that vegetables do not cause gas - we’ve heard different reports from different people, but, I’m going with her, ’cause I just can’t give up my veggies. Now, cow’s milk - that may have been the culprit of the kid’s fussiness/gas problem as of late. So, I’m going cold-turkey off it. Luckily wine and coffee are A-OK - so, all is well in the world - and if the gas can be cured, or at least lessened a bit we will be doing great.

They also pricked the $#!^ out of the kid’s foot and sucked him dry of blood for some tests. He cried like a little baby. My brain still bleeds at the sound of that cry, but, my heart is slowly hardening. Some day soon I’ll be able to let him cry his little eyes out and won’t be phased.

  1. In fairness, I think newborn crying is much harder to handle. As Owen got older and he started to communicate (even in the tiniest ways), I found his crying got easier.

I still punched a wall once. And then I called Kara because I felt guilty. Then I talked with some other dudes, and they told me they punched walls too… so it’s all good.

  2. yeah… I knew it would be hard mentally - I just didn’t realize that I would have such a physical reaction to it. Luckily & unluckily, Marc has no reaction at all to crying. He can literally stare the kid in the face and watch him cry, probably for hours. It’s amazing and strange that he can do that - but, good for me, because he is taking a lot more of the calming duties.
